MOTHER WAI 2950 (wire and iron) is a 3-Band, completely discrete class A inductor based ,500 series eq. In a way, we recreated the legendary W295, an EQ famous for its magically beautiful “high shelf” and real vintage vibe, the secret weapon of many producers over the past decades. Input and output are balanced by Mother's custom high class transformers. A special challenge was the output transformer, which with the integrated LPF at 20khz is a really critical element to not lose the well-known sonic character and the choice ultimately fell on the 50% Nickel core. Also, the impedance of the input transformer, (which in the geniune unit was relatively low) was incrased to today's standards and all this resulted in an extended low freq response and a slightly “excited” sound, if we compare it with the Siemens module. The PCB board is full of NOS BSX46 Phillips transistors, and as much as possible Siemens NOS film capacitors. All controls are stepped.

How it sounds?
Completely magical, huge, but still focused low end and incredibly sweet highs, creamy
mid range, very characteristic for an inductor based circuit.

This compact 4-band parametric equalizer has 12 controls for equalization adjustment that covers the audio spectrum from a low 25Hz all the way up to 25kHz. To enhance the classic EQ experience, the ASC-V offers both transformer-balanced and active-balanced outputs.

Legendary sound of Stereo Bus compressor has been true companion on countless recordings since 40 years. Often recognized as “mixbus glue”, this particular compression sound have become industry standard. We present _DIONE – fully analog, legendary VCA compressor with digital recall.

The Standard Audio Stretch is a 500 Series, multi-band Compressor / Dynamics Processor unit based on noise reduction units from the 1970s and 1980s. Stretch emulates the sound of these classic units in their respective “encode” modes. However, the Stretch adds new features to employ this old trick in multitude of new ways.  

Acme Audio Mfg. Co. is proud to introduce the OPTICOM XLA-500. Taking inspiration from the acclaimed XLA-3, Acme Audio has painstakingly squeezed the XLA-3’s topology into a convenient two space 500 series module.  The XLA-500 is a tube optical audio limiter designed to produce a full range of non-linear, dynamic audio effects.

Purple Audio ACTION is a FET compressor reminiscent of the MC77, designed to work in standard 500 racks.

The Action by Purple Audio features a constant impedance 600 ohm input attenuator feeding the input transformer, just like the MC77 units. This makes the input more resistant to overload by hot signals. After the input transformer, the signal is attenuated by the same gain reduction FET as in the MC77. The attenuated signal is buffered by a class A KDJ3 Op-Amp, which feeds the output fader. Lastly, the class AB KDJ4 output Op-Amp drives the custom hexafilar nickel and steel output transformer. The total gain (with no attenuation) is 45dB, just like the MC77.

The Shadow Hills Dual Vandergraph is a direct descendant of the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor and maintains its reputation of unquestionable quality and exceptional performance - in a 500 Series format. It’s inner workings are developed from the discrete gain cells of the Mastering Compressor which are combined with the Optograph’s extremely flexible Sidechain Filter matrix. This combination provides great possibilities for new recording techniques and the dynamic control.

Introducing the B1 and B1D Microphone Pre Amps from Burl Audio. Based on the API 500 series form factor, the B1 was designed to compliment the B2 Bomber ADC, and give you multi-channel pleasure. With the proprietary BX3 input transformer and BX2 output transformer, the B1 Mic Pre delivers warmth with depth and clarity.

The B1D is the same as the B1 except that it has an all iron BX4 output transformer giving it a more terrifying rock tone. An all discrete transistor, class-A, direct coupled, capacitor free circuit path, gives the B1 amazing punch on drums, beautiful tonality on guitars, and warmth with presence on vocals.

How does it sound?

Purple Audio PANTS is a four op-amp, differential mic preamp. Designed to work in standard “500″ racks.

The Pants uses a unique dual-bobbin input transformer from Cinemag unlike any other. The smooth Gain control helps you dial in the sound you want. If the output level is too high, you can ride the level down with the separate Level control. Pressing the “High” switch changes the feedback network to provide an insane 78dB of clean gain, a great match for very low output mics.

With different Gain, High mode switch, and Level settings the Pants can produce many different tones with the same amount of output level. The front panel DI goes through a FET buffer into the input transformer, adding an extra dimension to the sound of the preamp.

Purple Audio TAV is a ten-band inductor-based graphic EQ. Designed to work in standard “500″ racks designed by Ed Anderson for Purple Audio.

An illuminated pushbutton for relay true bypass (green) allows for easy comparison with unprocessed source material. A Tricolor LED meters the signal. The frequency response is +/- 0.25dB from 15Hz to 25kHz, and -3dB at 60kHz.A new take on the console graphic, with ten easy to use bands. Each band uses a high quality inductor and carefully selected caps to set the center frequency. At full boost and full cut the bands are narrow enough to still be useful individually, but at lower settings the bands widen out for more gentle shaping. Even at full boost and cut, the filters are shaped to be musical and useful.

With specialized input and output transformers, the TAV has plenty of headroom, even at full boost. The entire circuit is discrete, with no electrolytic capacitors in the signal path, and no servo amps. With only two active stages, the current draw is low enough to work in any rack, and leave plenty of juice for other modules. The Tav uses one KDJ3 op-amp and one KDJ4 op-amp.

A modern update of the classic “swinging inputs” console EQ, with four easy to use bands. Each band uses a high quality inductor and carefully selected caps to give two switchable frequencies. The bands are carefully shaped and spaced to be musical, even at full boost or cut. The highest band can be switched from bell to shelf, to boost frequencies extending well beyond 20kHz. The lowest band can also be switched from bell to shelf, reaching down into the subsonic range.

Smart Research C1LA is a stereo compressor/limiter, released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original C1 Stereo/Dual Mono unit, and the 50th anniversary of North American distributor, Sunset Sound. It is a versatile unit, housed in a two-module wide 500-series format, with three main modes of operation offering a range of possibilities. It can be used for all stereo or single channel signal applications: as a main mix bus compressor; for sub-mixes; or for tracking either mono or stereo sources.

WesAudio TITAN is a complete recall system designed to provide total integration with your beloved analogue equipment. It extends 500 series connector with additional pins where modules can be designed to support digital recall or any other vendor specific functionalities. This extension is part of new open standard “ng500” – “Next Generation 500 series” which allows other manufacturers to design and implement digitally controlled analog devices.

It also allows remote control of all ng500-compatible modules that it receives, including 500 WesAudio modules, using a single USB or Ethernet cable.

A unique sounding, three amplifier, discrete microphone preamp 500 Series module.

Buzz Audio Essence is a 500 Series version of the flagship SOC-1.1 opto compressor with a similar compression characteristic. The signal path uses Lundahl input and output transformers and our True Class A discrete amplifiers. This compressor is the only compressor on the market to offer a side chain insert point in the 500 Series format. In addition, on board side chain equalisation allows you to alter the sensitivity of the compressor at high and low frequencies - another unique feature of the Essence.

GC Audio Density compressor is a complete VCA Compressor.
The de-symmetrization stage consists of a Lundhal LL 1585 transformer which remains to this day the only way to perform common mode rejection without adding distortion. The follower OPA are ultra low noise AD797s recommended by That Corporation for optimal operation of the VCA.

The Germ 500 MKII is an updated version of our original Germ 500. This unit has an improved faceplate layout and nicer look. It uses classic germanium transistors in all class A, transformer balanced circuits. We have also updated the power on the MKII so there no known power-up issues with current lunchboxes and rack systems.

Buzz Audio Tonic is a simple but effective 3 band equalizer for the 500 Series system, the Tonic utilizes real inductors (chokes) in the high and low bands. These two bands are switchable shelf or bell modes and have 2 turn over frequency choices. The sweepable mid band features the Constant Amplitude Phase Shift circuit proposed my Mr Steve Dove in 1981 which has a very fluid sound. A high pass filter is also provided with two frequency choices (50Hz or 80Hz) selected by the user with jumpers on the PCB.

Kamaya is a Class A circuit microphone preamp inspired by vintage British classic console preamps. It can deliver up to 62 dB of gain to your microphones, but more importantly, it gonna breathe life into the sound, adding a new dimension and unique character that is hard to compare with other preamps in the market.

Chandler Limited TG12345 MKIV EQ - 500 series modular EQ
The Chandler Limited TG12345 MKIV equalizer is a handmade, fully discrete, mono, single space module, designed for the 500 Series format.

The TG12345 MKIV EQ for 500 Series, inherits from Chandler Limited’s TG Microphone Cassette and flagship TG12345 Curve Bender, and draws its heritage from the input and group channel equalizers found on historic EMI TG12345 recording consoles of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

Building upon the popularity of the company’s acclaimed TG2 Pre Amp / DI, the TG2-500 delivers the classic sound of the EMI TG12428 pre amp used in EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles in the late 60s and early 70s—in the company’s 500 series module form factor.

Using the identical TG2 circuit, transistors, and transformers, the TG2-500 delivers 10 – 60 dB of gain and uses a coarse gain control and a fine gain control as found on EMI consoles. The unit provides 300 and 1200 Ohm input impedance as on the TG2.
