Merci FPA :)

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I like the Biz module I purchased from you. Over the past two weeks I have been tracking a bunch of electric guitar (Les Paul and Marshall JCM-800) and we went through a pretty thorough comparison of quite a few different flavors of pre amp that I have in my set up. We put an AEA R-92 ribbon in front of an old Marshall 4X12 cab and went to town. The candidates were: API 312, API 512C, API 512A, Biz, OSA MP-L3, OSA MP-L, Chandler LTD-1, a pre from an E-Series SSL, and an old Ampex 351. All were great sounding in their own way, but both the player and I continually came back to the Biz and ended up using it for a majority of the tracks with some Chandler (for the 1073-esque flavor) and the 512C thrown in to add some different flavor. I found the Biz module to be big and thick – but not tubby. Aggressive – but not too edgy, and overall a very complimentary pre for the amp/guitar/mic combo we were using. I knew a product like this from you guys would be very good, but I have to say that the Biz is a stellar pre amp. I also intend to spread the word to my other 500-Series brothers

This compressor has a great sonic vibe. I like that just running a signal through it changes the character of the source material even if you are not compressing. This compressor excels at slow attack and release speeds. Many compressors make the sound pinched and thin when a slow release is used. This one doesn't seem to do that. It's fantastic at gain reduction levels between 0dB and 5dB. I really enjoy using it on lead vocals. The side chain filter is a great addition as well. I played slap bass through it and rolled off the bass of the side chain detector and was able to nicely tame and round off the sharp transients of the slapping and popping.

I like this preamp a lot. It has separate gain and output level knobs which allow you to push the gain louder into the tubes while turning your final output down to prevent clipping your input interface. This adds a nice color to the sound which I really like because I already have plenty of clean neutral sounding preamps. I also like the fact that it has the 1/4" inputs on the front. I played bass through it and was able to get a nice gritty rock sound pushing the input hard. This preamp has a lot of character in its sound. Sonically, it seems to add weight, which is good for making big lead vocals.

The Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 is a unique sounding equalizer and is the perfect complement to the other equalizers in my rack. It's smooth and natural top end, and rich sounding low end make it the perfect antidote for the harshness I frequently find in mixes done "in the box". Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the REQ-2.2 is it's ability to carve out excessive low end while still keeping the dynamics intact. As many projects are now mixed in less than perfect monitoring situations, I frequently find an overabundance of bottom end which has not been heard in the mix environment. The low end shelving on the REQ 2.2 removes the offending frequencies while leaving the warmth of the mid-range intact. I've really enjoyed this addition to my arsenal.
