McAudiolab 8P - Class-A solid-state 8 Channel Preamp and DI
The goal was to build a new mic preamplifier that exhibited the qualities of Class A range. Packing eight preamps into one chassis with one power supply. You won’t find any cut corners here, each channel uses Macaudiolab's super well-sounding 816 Class A discrete Op-Amp, as gain stage. The mic inputs benefits from the sound of the legendary Lundahl transformer which exhibits an incredible frequency response whilst adding a subtle amount of harmonic distortion. The excellent sound produced by this combination has been well proven in McAudiolab's 500 Series products. No matter what you feed it with. Another advantage of the transformer coupled input, is noise – or lack of it. Transients are preserved and the bottom-end sounds full, making the 8P the perfect choice for all music genres.
The Power Of Flexibility And Control
Applications go from modern music, acoustic instruments, to Drums and Voice as well as wind instruments.
The 8P does not use a transformer at the output. Instead we couple direct to the Class A amplifier (electronically servo-balanced) output.
The 8P is not a copy of the ‘trendy’ preamps or a vintage clone. It does have roots in vintage design practices and superior building techniques; featuring quality parts that have undergone extensive laboratory test earlier then listening tests later. The 8P is an eight channel discrete Class A Mic Preamp that accurately captures the true essence and quality of instruments and voices. Not a bunch of unneeded features, The biggest feature is there: just a pure and simple preamp but with a lot of character.
Vintage Meets New
The goal was creating a preamp that matches classic consoles, offering analog audio cleanliness, and bringing a wide sonic palette. We get the goal and the unit is capable of creating everything from clean audio with maximum headroom/minimum harmonic distortion to crisp sound. The 8P is one preamp that can fit into any studio situation.
816 Op-Amp LEGACY
In 2012 MCAudioLab released the model 816 discrete Operational Amplifier (DOA) for both line and microphone preamplifier. The 816 Op-Amp provided significantly better performance than the ‘general purpose’ built-in circuits as it is specifically designed for the audio. Discrete means that single transistors are used for the circuitry along with resistors and capacitors. It’s not a coincidence legendary audio gears or consoles use discrete op-amps. The sound character in the first place and then the flexibility of a specific custom design.
